Uniting the Fight Against Human Crime

The Knoble is a global network of financial crime professionals, nonprofits, and law enforcement working together to stop human trafficking, financial scams, elder financial exploitation, and child sexual exploitation.

Human Crime is a Global Crisis

Over 40 million people are enslaved, and countless more are financially exploited every day. Yet, fewer than 0.2% of trafficking victims are ever rescued. Financial institutions hold a powerful key to change that.

The Knoble was created to bridge the gap between financial crime prevention and human protection. By connecting skilled professionals across sectors, we help uncover exploitation where it is often overlooked: in the data, the accounts, and the transactions.

Our Focus Areas

We focus on four critical areas of human crime where financial systems and partnerships can make a direct impact.

  • Blurred motion of a crowd of people walking outside a modern building with glass facade.

    Human Trafficking

Human trafficking is an estimated $346.7 billion industry.

  • A young girl lying on her back in bed, looking at her phone. She has dark hair, a calm expression, and is wearing a light blue shirt. The bed has patterned sheets, and there is a potted plant in the background.

    Child Sexual Exploitation

36.2 million reports of child sexual abuse material in 2023.

  • Stock market data with stacks of coins, cash, and an upward trending chart overlay.

    Predatory Scams

An estimated loss of $1.03 trillion to scams in 2024.

  • Elderly man with white hair talking on a yellow phone while looking at a blue device.

    Elder Financial Exploitation

$61.5 billion estimated lost to elder exploitation in 2022.

  • Dale Jones, Head of Enterprise Fraud Management at TIAA

  • Adah Haley, BSA Officer at URW Community FCU

“Since joining The Knoble, I have changed financial institutions, obtained my ACAMS certification, and taken countless training courses on human crimes. I have discovered that human crime is something we all face in the financial world, even if we think it isn't present in our town or market area.”

  • Anna Stefanelli, Vice President & Regulatory Risk Relationship & Support Manager at Ocean Bank

“Joining The Knoble has represented a source of knowledge, information and from the personal perspective, a motivation to contribute to the Human Trafficking fight.”

  • Paula Wilson, Customer & Client Protection, Assoc. Mgr. at Best Buy Corp.

"The calls are where the magic happens. This is one organization where the collaboration is not something that is simply talked about, but it really happens. People provide insight on what has/hasn't worked for them and I have certainly had several things that I implemented or am working on implementing after just one call."

  • Scott Kelly, Senior Consultant at Falcon Capital Advisors

“Since joining The Knoble and participating in some of the webinars recently, I have made a conscious decision to adjust my career path to being more engaged in the fight against fraud and schemes. What that looks like, I am not certain of yet however, I have come to realize that there are jobs out there where fighting the good fight is the job, not just part of the job.”

  • Sheena Perez, BSA/AML Compliance at Valley National Bank

"I joined Knoble Network because of my passion to fight human crime. I wanted my contributions to preventing and stopping human crime to go beyond my work hours and in order to successfully play a role in this mission I knew I had to join a network that equally has the same passion and with Knoble Network I know with their team of professionals we can all contribute and make a difference."

  • Freddy Massimi, AVP, Financial Crimes Technology Specialist at II Truist

“The Network and White Papers are amazing. They have helped with investigative tactics to try to deter and mitigate human trafficking and Fraud around Human trafficking by providing a list of scenarios and system-based fraud rules for our data team.”

  • Chris Bagnall, Senior Investigator at Quantexa

“There are so many needed skill sets and opportunities to get involved in the anti-human trafficking fight. However, figuring out where to begin is tricky. Once I figured out the skill set I could bring to the table and how I could advance the mission, I sought out organizations that would be a good fit. The Knoble's mission and those individuals/companies involved in furthering that mission fit exactly what I was looking for.”

  • Shelley Hunter, Consumer Advocate and Gift Card Expert Company at Gift Card Reform, LLC

“Scammers are intelligent and resourceful, but those fighting for good possess equal acumen. The critical difference is that while scammers often share information to enhance their schemes, legitimate businesses inadvertently keep their data siloed, unintentionally fueling crime. At The Knoble, the collaboration between financial service professionals, law enforcement, regulators, and others offers a unique opportunity to bridge these gaps. As a gift card expert, I understand how scammers exploit gift cards to fuel nefarious activities. Recognizing that I alone can't stop this from happening, I joined The Knoble to contribute my expertise, learn from what others are doing, and link arms with people who are determined to make a difference.”

  • Zulia Cruz-Arenas, Controller at Credit Union of Ohio Inc

“Being part of The Knoble has truly opened my eyes to the complex and challenging world of financial crime, especially its connection to human trafficking. I’ve gained a deeper understanding of the devastating impact these crimes have on vulnerable populations, which has inspired me to take action beyond my professional role. Sharing this valuable knowledge with my local community has helped raise awareness about human trafficking and the role financial crimes play in facilitating it. The resources from The Knoble have empowered me to not only enhance my own skills but also to educate others, creating a ripple effect of awareness and vigilance. This experience has reinforced my commitment to fighting these crimes, both in my professional field and within my community.”

  • Nanci McKenzie, Payments Expert at The Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta

“Personally, I have gained strength and confidence in myself to be a survivor that can share with others that may still be a victim, those that know someone who is whether it be a family members, neighbor, customer, or friend, and have gained so much education on abuse and exploitation of all kinds. Professionally, I have connected Ian with payment association conferences to share the message, be a part of project teams such as with Nacha's Payments Innovation Alliance Elder Abuse Exploitation and the deliverables we have provided the financial industry. I'm an advocate for local domestic violation shelters and encourage employees of all types within the financial industry to get involved.”
